Here's how we supported National Apprenticeship Week 2022 #NAW2022 #BuildTheFuture

The 15th annual National Apprenticeship Week #NAW2022 took place between Monday 7th - Sunday 13th February, coordinated and organised by the National Apprenticeship Service (NAS). This annual event brings together employers and apprentices from across the UK to celebrate the success of apprenticeships and traineeships with the aim of encouraging more people to choose an apprenticeship as a pathway to a great career.

We are multi award-winning providers of professional apprenticeships in building services engineering offered through a 9-year structured training programme to gain focused academic qualifications from BTEC to Masters. Currently, approx. 20% of our workforce are employed through this initiative and we’re extremley proud of all that they have achieved.

During the week, we...

In support of NAS' 'Progression Tuesday', we chatted with Chloe Jones, HR Coordinator and Oliver Newman, Senior Electrical Engineer about their apprenticeship journeys and their highlights so far...

Chloe Jones

Tell us about your apprenticeship journey so far…

I joined TB+A in 2017 after leaving sixth form to pursue a career in HR. An apprenticeship wasn’t something I had initially considered, however after speaking with a careers advisor who highlighted the benefits of apprenticeships, I was quickly drawn to this route.

During my time at TB+A, I completed my Level 3 HR Support Apprenticeship in 2019 and progressed onto the Level 5 HR Management Apprenticeship in 2020 where I recently passed my end point assessment. Throughout the duration of both apprenticeships I've received ongoing support from TB+A, gained invaluable experience and been able to earn while I learn.

When you started your apprenticeship, did you expect to get to where you are today?

I didn't expect to have progressed so quickly and to have gained as much work experience as I have done. My apprenticeship has helped me to develop both personally and professionally and I'm really looking forward to seeing what the future holds.

What is your career and/or personal highlight achieved at TB+A to date?

The biggest career highlight for me so far has been achieving my CIPD Level 5 HR Management qualification and recently being promoted to HR Coordinator. My apprenticeship has opened up a pathway to a career I thoroughly enjoy and I am thankful for the opportunities it has given me.

Oliver Newman

How has your apprenticeship helped you to fast track your career?

By completing an apprenticeship, I’ve been able to gain a valuable insight into working life and all the experience that comes with it whilst also achieving the qualifications I need to pave the way for my career.

This way, I feel like I’m a few years ahead of where I would have been if I had gone down the more conventional route.

Where do you see yourself in the next five years?

My aim is to play a key management role within my design team and continue to build my existing Client relationships and network, whilst developing new connections for future projects.

What is your career and/or personal highlight achieved at TB+A to date?

Graduating University with a first class honours degree! When I was at school, I didn’t think I was particularly academic or that I would ever go to University. So, this has been a huge achievement for me and something I’m extremely proud of.
