Expanded Schools, Bradford

The City of Bradford Metropolitan District Council needed to undertake a massive primary school expansion programme to cope with Bradford’s growing population.

New buildings were planned at 29 schools to create extra places for children. This programme included the construction of new extensions and refurbishment of existing space to increase and up-date teaching facilities

TB+A carried out works to several schools and other Council Buildings on a competitive bid basis, and were subsequently appointed to the CBMDC Framework Agreement in 2009.

Through these appointments, we were selected to provide full M&E services to separate projects at 12 schools.

In each case, taking the proposals from Inception to final ‘Masterplan’ through a number of phased work packages and reviewing/advising at each stage accordingly.

Works have already successfully completed to Phase 1 of the programme in nearly all the schools and Phases 2 and 3 are currently on-going.

Project values range from £260k-£3.1m with total spend to date £29m.

Key elements include:

  • Sedum Roof, Natural Ventilation, Under floor Heating
  • Phased Working, Decanting & Maintained Operation
  • Infrastructure Enhancement
  • Sun Pipes, Thermal Modelling & provision of SBEM
  • Development & Future Expansion Strategies.
  • Framework Consultant
