Hotel du Vin Edinburgh

At the time of construction Hotel Du Vin was part of the Malmaison Group of Hotels and this boutique hotel is located near the Castle in Edinburgh’s world heritage old town.

Formerly a city asylum, many of the features within the hotel have been cleverly designed such as tall rooms and multi-level layout, to cleverly mimic the steep, warren-like closes that characterise the medieval street patterns of Edinburgh’s Old Town.

The hotel oozes character and charm having many of the public areas incoprorated within the Victorian architecture of the former asylum with exposed stonework, exposed roof rafters as well as original stair cases.

32 of the bedrooms are formed within the new-build part of the project. These rooms are built around a public courtyard which aslo forms a unique feature of this hotel with outdoor tables and Hotel du Vin’s signature “cigar hut”.

TB+A carried out the detailed building services design in conjunction with Mitie Engineering on a Design & Build basis.

The installations included a fast recovery hot water installation to serve the large diameter showerheads, efficient communal bedroom services risers to serve the en-suite bathrooms and heat recovery VRV to all bedrooms and public spaces.

The lighting installation was developed with the Architect and client to provide a subdued and unobtrusive installation in keeping with the Hotel’s character.
