News UK HQ, London Bridge Quarter
TB+A have been working with News Corporation since 2009, and were part of the consolidation of News Corps London business units including over 3,500 staff into a single central London ‘state of the art’ office building (The Place) which is their UK headquarters for the next 30 years.
TB+A were appointed to carry out full M&E Consultancy for the fit-out and to advise on sustainability. Our works included a review of the base build installations and tenant provisions, providing technical support for the HOT and ATL and the detailed design and construction monitoring.
The project was procured under a management form of contract and had to be open for business one year from appointment of the professional team which has embedded a culture of trust and collaborative working across all companies involved. The building includes Offices, MER’s, SER’s, Radio & Television Studios, News Rooms, Client Dining/meeting suites, Kitchen & Restaurant, a 200 seat Auditorium and supporting amenity spaces.
News Corp took this opportunity to implement new ways of working facilitated by the introduction of desk sharing and collaborative work spaces.
The engineering services include enhanced utility and infrastructure resilience, high efficiency four pipe fan coil air-conditioning, natural ventilation and high efficiency lighting with lower than industry standard energy usage. The building has been designed to deliver exceptional environment credentials and includes the following key features:
- BREEAM Outstanding
- Carbon emissions 60% less than typical prestige standard office
- Photovoltaics utilised to generate power
- Supplementary power and heat generation through bio-fuel CHP system
- Natural ventilation
