University of Manchester

We have been working successfully with the University of Manchester since our appointment to their original consultant’s Rolling Appointment List as building services consultants in 2012. The list was recently renewed and we are pleased to have been reappointed for the next iteration.

The University owns one of the largest higher-education campuses in the country and our team have worked across the estate within both landmark Listed premises and their state-of-the-art research buildings.

We have delivered schemes including new build and refurbishment projects for a range of facilities including:

  • Laboratories
  • Teaching and research buildings
  • Student accomodation
  • Public realm

For the majority of projects, our role has been from RIBA Stage 0 to 7. This includes initially assisting faculty staff in developing a brief, through to the delivery of detailed design and reviewing the works post-occupancy, examining lessons-learned and signing off the end-of-defects.

Through our experience, we have provided solutions, developed from direct dialogue with multiple stakeholders and the application of the University’s specific standards and policies. On many projects that are MEP biased, we have acted as principal designer.

During the design stages we also provided elemental cost estimates that aid the development of scope, and inform the design.

Example projects include;

  • Christabel Pankhurst Institute. (£4 million), New build (1100m²) and refurbishment (580m²) for new research institute
  • Network Transformation. (£4 million), WIFI upgrade across over 70 properties within the campus
  • Victoria Park Master-planning (circa £25k fee). Consultancy to review MEP services and development of proposed MEP strategies for the redevelopment of the student residential campus that encompasses
  • Former Manchester Business School East. (£700k), Refurbishment of Existing 5 storey teaching building to form part of the proposed redeveloped engineering facilities.
  • Associated Clinical Facilities (£700k) refurbishment of laboratories and clinical teaching rooms to serve medical and clinical teaching faculties.
  • John Rylands Library, Security Upgrade (£100k). Refurbishment of intruder and access control within the Grade 1 Listed property.
