Home Quality Mark (HQM)

The Home Quality Mark (HQM) is a voluntary standard for new homes, which uses a 5-star rating system to benchmark a new home's design, construction quality and running costs.

Although the government and council may not ask for a specific HQM certificate, the assessment will still support the sustainability statements that each councils have.  The HQM will help house developers to differentiate their dwellings in the marketplace with a mark that demonstrates the high quality of their homes. 

It is also beneficial for householders, as the HQM certification clearly demonstrates that the new home is well designed, built, and cost effective to run.  

A separate sub-score on the certificate will clearly show the overall expected costs, health and wellbeing benefits, and environmental footprint associated with living in the home.
It is also recommended for planning applications as it is an easy way to confirm compliance with the local authority sustainability policies

Furthermore, some local authorities have started updating their policies with some samples clearly requesting an environmental tool to support a sustainable development.

The different structure of this new tool has three main areas:
•Knowledge Sharing - the processes that enhance understanding and co-operation between the designer, constructor, client and householder.
•Our Surroundings - the ability of homes to work with current and future surroundings.
•My Home - the provision of living spaces that are comfortable, healthy, cost effective and have reduced environmental impacts.
