Positive news for our Healthcare design team who have recently learned of planning permission being granted for the Pears Maudsley Centre for Children & Young People on Denmark Hill in South London. This new development due to start on site in 2021 will deliver much needed support to children and young people, providing early effective intervention for those suffering with mental health issues and substance misuse.
The project which is due for completion in 2023, has been designed in accordance with the current GLA London Plan and set to achieve BREEAM Excellent.
The design incorporates many sustainability features including CHP and PV panels, with a strategy to either connect to a district heating network or incorporate air source heat pumps in the future. As part of the design, we have incorporated an interstitial plantroom so that a much needed roof top playground could be included for the school to provide outdoor and recreational space for the children.
Zoe Faulkner, Associate at TB+A and our Centre of Excellence lead for Architectural Lighting worked closely with the Landscape Architect to meet the planning requirements for the areas around the building and roof terraces. This included the incorporation of anti-ligature lighting, safety and security for access and maintenance, all designed to be in line with BREEAM “excellent” requirements.
