TB+A’s former Managing Partner receives CIBSE’s highest honour
October 2026
Recognising more than 65 years of engineering leadership, shared knowledge and service to the profession.

We’re delighted to share that David Arnold has been awarded the CIBSE Gold Medal, the Institution’s highest individual honour.

The award recognises an exceptional contribution to building services, more than five decades of service to CIBSE and a lasting influence on industry knowledge.

David has been a corporate member of CIBSE for over 50 years. He served as the Institution’s President in 1994 and has remained closely involved ever since, contributing to technical reviews, special interest groups and work that has strengthened connections across the international building services community.

Throughout his career, David has championed natural ventilation, thermal storage and low-energy building design. His academic and professional work helped build understanding of sustainable performance long before these subjects became mainstream priorities.

David has been a longstanding Partner at TB+A and served as Managing Partner from 1990 to 1996. Alongside helping the Partnership grow, he continued to give his time to research, education and technical leadership across the wider profession.

That contribution can be seen in technical papers, books, CIBSE guidance, conferences and postgraduate education. Just as importantly, David has always made time to teach, mentor and share what he knows with others.

TEST
"David’s influence is felt not only in the technical knowledge he has helped build, but in the time he has given to others along the way. His service to CIBSE and his contribution to our Partnership have always been grounded in a genuine commitment to moving the profession forward. The Gold Medal is a thoroughly deserved recognition of that legacy."
